Provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders under the general supervisor of the clinical directors (M.D., D.O., or PhD) or designee.  This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. 
Responsibilities: A listing of the key responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrates proficiency in all procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data for all sleep studies.
  2. Assist with determining strategies for ideal patient care during overnight studies. (Helping to determine if patients are safe to stay alone, if they need caregivers, if a patient needs special requirements)
  3. Distributing home sleep apnea test, demonstrating the proper use and set up required for optimal testing.
  4. Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
  5. Explains pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient and responds to procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information.
  6. Scores sleep/wake states by applying professionally accepted guidelines and scores clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, etc.) according to center specific protocols.
  7. Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  8. Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.
  9. Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
  10. Performing positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting on patients in need of further education.
  11. Performs all other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography OR successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological, physical and mental sciences or completion of an accredited training program or associates degree in nursing, respiratory therapy, EE or the equivalent preferred.
  • Three (3) years prior polysomnography and scoring experience required.
  • Ability to use good judgment and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Able to deal appropriately with emergency medical situations.
  • Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Prior supervision experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy and recognize and observe privacy and confidentiality.
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
  • Certified in an ability to maintain certification in BLS, RPSGT.
  • Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or recognized equivalent.
  • Obtains required state licensure.
