Position Summary:
 
The Senior Director Perioperative and Interventional Services has 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the management of clinical practice, patient care delivery, human and fiscal resources, compliance with regulatory standards, continuous quality improvement, and fostering interdepartmental and intradepartmental collaborative relationships across Southwestern Vermont Health Care system.  Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of quality, best practice based clinical delivery systems to support perioperative and interventional services. Initiates, supports, and participates in on-going educational and research programs. Scope of responsibility includes Pre-Op, OR, PACU, Central Sterile Supply/Processing, Endoscopy, Scheduling, Outpatient Infusion, Interventional Radiology.
 
Responsibilities:
  1. Manages and directs staff resources in area of responsibility.
  2. Investigates technology to enhance productivity, revenue and/or safety and improve service to patients, (i.e. business plans, new product lines).
  3. Provides leadership in establishing, monitoring, and maintaining standards for quality and safety in assigned clinical areas.
  4. Assesses departmental needs for program development in education or service and implements as deemed appropriate.
  5. Develops and reviews organizational policies and procedures and revises based on evidence-based practice.
  6. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  7. Develops, monitors and manages operating (revenue and expense) and capital budgets using the Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) process.
  8. Maintains collaborative relationships with providers through open communication and the identification of methodologies in support of their practice.
  9. Successfully identifies, develops, negotiates, and maintains contracts pertinent to the department.
  10.  Demonstrates knowledge of master facility plan and actively participates in creating facility plans for areas of responsibility
  11.  Works collaboratively with physician and administrative leaders to assess current service and patient care needed and define quality Improvement activities
  12. In collaboration with the physician and administrative leaders ensures the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of clinical patient care and clinical practice.
  13. In conjunction with physician and administrative leaders assesses current perioperative and interventional service needs and implements programs which address market trends, competitor activity, user needs (including but not limited to patients and insurers) and service opportunities
  14.  Works collaboratively with physician and administrative leaders to develop an annual budget and manages human, fiscal, and other resources to meet established goals, address operational and strategic needs, enhance productivity and revenue, and decrease expenses.
  15. Directs the professional growth and development of licensed and non-licensed nursing and health care personnel.
  16. In collaboration with physician and administrative leaders participates in the strategic planning activities of the organization and develops programs/plans for services that support organizational strategies.
  17. Defines and implements philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards for perioperative and interventional clinical care and services. Ensures the application of nursing standards and standards of practice, together with adherence and compliance to applicable regulatory bodies.
  18. Ensures effective perioperative and interventional clinical practices. Communicates and interprets program needs to Executive Leadership.
  19. Ascertains needs of other departments and ensures coordination of service and efforts.
  20. Assumes accountability for the hiring, performance evaluation, and termination of perioperative and interventional nursing and support staff.
  21. Develops, coordinates, and evaluates the orientation program of the department. Assesses the educational needs of staff, providing staff development and educational opportunities.
  22. Facilitates process to ensure appropriate utilization of services, high productivity, and delivery of quality patient care.
  23. Supports, participates, and collaborates in research initiatives.  Evaluates research for utilization in practice and facilitates staff utilization of research for practice improvements.
  24. Ensures accurate and timely data reporting for the management and continuous quality improvement of perioperative and interventional services. Uses benchmarking data for analysis and performance improvement initiatives.
  25. Directs and coordinates daily operations of perioperative and interventional services.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • MBA, MHA or MSN required.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency, leadership and education experience with 2 years of administrative or director level experience in perioperative and interventional services in an acute care setting, or equivalent required.    
  • Experience managing a staff of 30 or more required
  • RN preferred.
     
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
  • RNs required to hold an active, unencumbered RN license in Vermont and New Hampshire.     
  • RNs required to hold CNOR certification.
