Responsible for planning, directing and administering the system wide volunteer program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. (D-H).
 
Responsibilities: A listing of the key responsibilities:
  1. Leads volunteer programs and projects that assist and support patients, families, visitors, and staff.  Provides oversight to all volunteer committees, supervises volunteer chairs and facilitates the ongoing development of volunteer programming system-wide.
  2. Designs and implements annual recruitment strategies to accommodate diverse community groups and aligns system-wide orientation to ensure local safety and logistical considerations are introduced while creating common trainings attending to patient and family care, service excellence, safety, and other D-H values.
  3. Develops new volunteer programs, inclusive of D-H Volunteers Board that adapt to and evolve with the needs of patients, families, and population health trends and projections.
  4. Develops and implements volunteer recognition strategies in collaboration with D-H leadership.
  5. Selects, orients, and evaluates departmental, D-H Gift Shop and Information Desk leaders and/or staff.
  6. Assures compliance with regulatory and legal standards for volunteer services.  Effectively communicates and maintains updated policies and procedures pertinent to volunteers.  Directs work flow within the department and ensures accuracy of volunteer schedules, reports, newsletters and database.
  7. Serves as liaison with other D-H departments and in the community.  Acts as an educational resource to D-H staff in promoting volunteerism.  Is actively involved in building alliances, supporting networks and promoting volunteerism within staff and community.  Initiates and develops new programs where volunteers are utilized.  Promotes and supports opportunities for volunteer participation in D-H committees and task forces.
  8. Oversees and implements ongoing quality improvement through the evaluation of current programs, department, and departmental systems.
  9. Participates in continuing education programs and professional development activities to bring future directions and trends to D-H.
  10. Acts as spokesperson for Volunteer Services, within D-H and in the community.
  11. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
 Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in behavioral/clinical sciences or leadership.
  • 3 years of experience in volunteer or administrative work in a hospital setting, or the equivalent in education and experience required.
  • Advanced interpersonal and written communication skills in both formal and informal environments required.
  • Leadership experience, familiarity with the local community strongly preferred.
  • Certification with the American Hospital Association as a Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services preferred, if not possessing certificate upon hire will be required to pursue.
