Assumes responsibility for coding education activities with providers and coders.

A listing of the key responsibilities
  1. Performs various coding duties, including, but not limited to, identifying coding trends through data analysis or chart review, reviewing existing coding policy for accuracy, developing new coding policy through the Coding Policy Forum, and assisting in providing education for coding team meetings.
  2. Provides for numerous coding education aspects, including developing the Annual Education Plan and coordinating and coding education activities in assigned departments, ranging from monthly ten record reviews per provider to ongoing daily education activities, and conducting coding orientation for new provider staff.
  3. Applies mandated coding guidelines to physician documentation, including demonstrated proficiency with E/M code assignment, auditing and education for Professional Coding Advisors.
  4. Identifies key issues and presents pertinent information to the coding group and/or coding customers to ensure proper communication.
  5. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates degree or equivalent with 5 years recent coding experience required.
  • A background in a multi-specialty coding setting preferred.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to effectively communicate (both orally and in writing) with all levels of staff.
  • Attention to detail essential.
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
  •       CPC or CCS-P certification required.
