Bed Management Representative

 

This position is a full time role with a rotating schedule, nights and weekends included. The Bed Management Representative works with the providers and nurses to place patients on the most appropriate units according to the medical care that will be required. This is a fast paced role that demands excellent customer service skills, working with a broad group of clinicians throughout the D-H in-patient areas. Qualified candidates will have strong computer skills with the ability to learn complex software that manages admissions and discharges tracking all beds throughout the hospital.

 

Position Summary:Manages and oversees all patient admissions. Works in collaboration with physicians and others in the Nursing Department to optimize patient placement and flow in an effort to maximize Hospital capacity.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborates with others to maximize day-to-day patient and bed flow management. This includes preparing for and leading bed meetings, monitoring, interacting with, and ensuring accuracy of electronic patient placement systems data, providing backup for patient placement discussions and decisions and Patient Placement Services operations, etc.

  2. Implements standardized and consistent patient placement processes across all areas of responsibility. Assigns locations/beds for patients. Arranges external, and facilitates internal transfers. Implements and communicates census procedures. Analyzes, synthesizes, and corrects census errors and act as a resource to ensure accurate census and patient charges. Implements HIPPA privacy regulations and Patient Bill of Rights and act as a resource for others in the organization.

  3. Implements and oversees emergency and electronic back-up methods and procedures.

  4. Assumes responsibility for operations as well as accountability for quality assessment of departmental output.

  5. Provides orientation, direction and training to assigned staff members. Oversees and delegates work. Provides feedback to the supervisors.

  6. Identifies and defines problem areas, making recommendations for improvement.

Performs other duties as required or assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate.

  • Medical terminology required or equivalent experience working in the medical field.    

  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

  • Computer capability and electronic system data entry skills required. 

  • Exemplary interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated team player skills required. 

Must be capable of performing work in a multitasking environment and retain detailed information
